PAGA lets an employee sue the business on behalf of the State of California for labor code violations. Meal/rest periods, wage statements, final pay, safety violations — almost any labor violation qualifies, and a single complaint expands across the entire workforce.
2024 PAGA Reform
AB 2288 · SB 92 (effective 2024.6.19): employers with documented reasonable steps may have penalties capped at 15% of the amount sought (a statutory reduction up to 85%). Eligibility depends on documented facts and is determined by the court.
